Cabinet Survives No-Confidence Vote

The Cabinet of Rosen Zhelyazkov Thursday survived a no-confidence vote over its foreign policy. The motion was submitted by Vazrazhdane with support by the MPs of Velichie and MECh.

The vote was 54-150, with no abstentions. Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria did not vote.

The government was backed by 66 MPs of GERB-UDF, 29 MPs of MRF - New Beginning, 19 MPs of BSP - United Left, 19 MPs of Democracy, Rights and Freedoms, and 17 MPs of There Is Such a People.

The no-confidence motion was backed by 33 MPs of Vazrazhdane, 11 of MECh and 10 of Velichie.

It was the first no-confidence motion against this government.

To go through, it needed the support of more than half of the MPs in the 240-seat legislature.
