Bulgaria and Jordan have long been partners, developing productive and growing cooperation in areas of mutual interest, President Rumen Radev said Thursday at the start of his meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah II, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria. The two leaders held a private meeting at the President's Administration, followed by plenary talks between the official delegations of the two countries.
Radev noted that the relations between the two countries are based on trust, mutual respect, and a constructive, pragmatic spirit. "Jordan plays a leading role in the Arab world and is a recognized factor of stability in the Middle East. On the other hand, Bulgaria is an active member of NATO and the European Union, and it is working to strengthen trust, cooperation, and good neighborliness in the Balkans and Europe," the President added.
On the second day of the visit, the two heads of state will co-host a high-level meeting in Sofia as part of the Aqaba Process initiative.
At the beginning of April, heads of state, government representatives, and members of intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations will meet, at the invitation of President Radev and King Abdullah II, to discuss the security environment with a focus on the Balkans.
"At tomorrow's meeting, where several heads of state from our region will participate, we will discuss important issues related to security, the fight against terrorism, illegal migration, and radicalization. These are problems for both our regions," Radev said.
He also noted that several months ago, the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Jordan was marked.
Radev stated that Bulgaria supports the efforts of Jordan and King Abdullah II to end the bloodshed in Gaza and address the severe humanitarian crisis, aiming for a peaceful, diplomatic solution. "Bulgaria remains firmly in favor of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as the only way to achieve lasting and sustainable peace," he added.
The Bulgarian President concluded that the meeting between the two heads of state will provide a "new impetus" for the development of relations between the two countries.
