A Bulgarian delegation to Kyiv, led by National Assembly Chair Rosen Zhelyazkov, was taken to a bomb shelter during an air raid alert on Wednesday morning, the National Assembly press office said.
The Bulgarians left the shelter about three and a half hours later.
Zhelyazkov told Bulgarian journalists in Kyiv: "We heard the sound of sirens, and we all went into a bomb shelter in keeping with the protocol." He noted that the children in the shelter made a very strong impression on the Bulgarian delegation. "Four or five year old kids were quietly and patiently waiting, together with their parents, for the air raid alert to end. This has been a daily routine for them over the last two years. Their childhood is scarred."
Zhelyazkov's visit to Ukraine is proceeding under tight security.
Reuters said Russia carried out rocket strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities on Wednesday morning. No victims have been reported.
