A total of 27 suspected jihadists have been detained in a large-scale counter-terrorism operation against the Islamic State carried out in a number of Turkish districts, including Ankara, Turkish state television TRT-Haber reported Tuesday.

The operation was undertaken on the orders of the Chief Prosecutor's Office in Izmir with the aim of "preventing the financing of terrorism". Arrest warrants have been issued for 30 suspects.

Operations against the Islamic State were carried out in the districts of Ankara, Sakarya, Kocaeli, Istanbul, Erzincan, Konya, Malatya, Mardin, Eskisehir, Bitlis, Gaziantep and Adana.

Law enforcement forces are currently searching for three suspects.

In 2013, Turkiye was one of the first countries to list ISIS as a terrorist organization. Since then, the country has been targeted by the group repeatedly, with at least ten suicide attacks, seven bombings and four armed assaults that have killed at least 300 people and injured hundreds of others.
