site.btaRomanian Border Police Probe Two Bulgarian Smugglers

Two Bulgarian nationals, aged 30 and 36, are under investigation after they tried to smuggle 52,460 cigarettes into Romania through the Giurgiu border crossing checkpoint, the local inspectorate of Border Police said.

The cigarettes are of different brands and were hidden under the seats, in the trunk and engine compartment of the cars driven by the Bulgarians.

The 30-year-old driver was carrying 1,272 packs, the 36-year-old - 1,351 packs. The cigarettes were seized by police. The seized cigarettes are worth about BGN 28,000.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the two Bulgarians.
