The Bulgarian national football team faces a tough group in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, after the draw at FIFA's headquarters on Friday. The World Cup is set to take place in Canada, Mexico, and the USA.

Bulgaria is in Group E, which includes four teams. The group leader will be determined by the winner of the Nations League quarter-final play-off between Spain and the Netherlands, set for March 2025. The other two teams in the group are Turkiye from the second pot and Georgia from the third.

Historically, Spain has been a challenging opponent for Bulgaria. Bulgaria has only managed one draw against Spain, while Spain has won all the other matches. Spain is also the reigning European champion, having won the tournament in Germany this summer.

The group matches are scheduled to start in September 2025.
