The 153rd birth anniversary of prominent Bulgarian revolutionary Gotse Delchev was celebrated with a diverse programme here on Tuesday, said Gotse Delchev Municipality (Southwestern Bulgaria) on Wednesday.
The official celebration took place on the central square in front of his monument, where wreaths and flowers were laid as a sign of respect and gratitude. The ceremony was attended by Gotse Delchev Mayor Vladimir Moskov, the Metropolitan of Nevrokop Seraphim, as well as representatives of political parties and local institutions.
Afterwards, a concert was performed by Nikolina and Maria Chakardakova at the House of Culture. In the crowded hall, hundreds of lovers of Bulgarian folklore music honoured the memory of Gotse Delchev.
Georgi (Gotse) Delchev is a modern-day national hero in both Bulgaria and North Macedonia. He is one of the most significant figures of the Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization (IMARO), member of its Foreign Representation in Sofia, Exarchist teacher, and founder of the Insurgent Institute at IMARO.
