GERB leader Boyko Borissov Wednesday said Bulgaria's strategic goal is to join the eurozone, which offers huge benefits.

Talking to reporters in Parliament, Borissov commented on fears that people will lose money, saying that there is a resolution of the National Assembly that adopting the euro, Bulgaria will maintain the exchange rate at BGN 1.95583 to the euro. "That is why we made a political decision, taking the risk to see through what we have been working for - the eurozone - for years on end," he said.

"For several years, Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria and other majorities did nothing for Bulgaria to move on from the waiting room to the eurozone, all kinds of figures were cited," Borissov added. "I support [Finance Minister] Temenuzhka Petkova's decision to release the deputy minister [her predecessor Lyudmila Petkova] from her duties," he said.

"The government has our full support to get this job done," Borissov said. "For almost a month, you kept asking 'Can Borissov [as holder of the government-holding mandate] lead the process, bring together the irreconcilable wings, and form a regular government that will move us towards the eurozone and stabilize public finances?'" he commented when he was asked in what capacity he had requested information from the Finance Minister about the delayed expenditures for 2024.
