The Shumen Symphony Orchestra will present a concert lecture dedicated to the great composer, musician, conductor and professor at the St Petersburg Conservatory Alexander Glazunov on February 6, said the orchestra on Wednesday.

The new format will be presented for the first time, with Slavil Dimitrov as conductor and Todor Georgiev as soloist on violin. Radost Alexandrova will tell stories and unknown facts from Glazunov's life and work, while the programme will also include a Concerto for violin and orchestra and The Seasons, a one-act ballet in four scenes which depicts the change of the four seasons and the eternal cycle of nature.

Alexander Glazunov is called the Russian Brahms and is considered the heir to the Mighty Five, a creative union of Russian composers created in St Petersburg in the late 1850s and early 1860s. The young Glazunov was endowed with enormous talent and from an early age reproduced the most complex melodies by ear. Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov became his teacher, mentor and inspirer, the Shumen Symphony Orchestra added. In 1899, Glazunov was appointed professor at the St Petersburg Conservatory. Known for his generosity and love for his students, as director of the conservatory he gave higher scholarships to poor students, wanting to help young people not to waste their talent in poverty. In 1928, he managed to go to the centenary of Schubert in Vienna and never returned to Russia. In 1936, Glazunov died in Paris. He was buried in the famous Père Lachaise cemetery.
