Work on completing the new laboratory building at the St Kliment Ohridski Bulgarian Antarctic Base on Livingston Island continues. Currently, efforts are focused on the water supply line to the new building, as well as laying a power cable route.

Meanwhile, seismologist Chief Assistant Dr. Gergana Georgieva and physicist Vasil Gurev will complete their scientific measurements on Wednesday and retrieve their equipment from Balkan Glacier. Physicist Engineer Tsvetan Parov and geologist Chief Assistant Dr. Yordanka Donkova will also be conducting research on Balkan Glacier.

The Bulgarian naval research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) will remain anchored for the day in Emona Bay, part of South Bay on Livingston Island. Onboard, maintenance will be carried out on the vessel’s equipment, mechanisms, and hull, while also assisting with laying the power cable for the new laboratory building at the base, Commander Radko Muevski, the vessel’s Commanding Officer, told BTA.

The fifth group of the 33rd Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition departed Tuesday from Sofia Airport on a flight to Rome. The group includes Prof. Christo Pimpirev, Sofia University Rector Prof. Georgi Valchev, Assoc. Prof. Yuri Kuchev, Kremena Georgieva, a representative of Kaufland, Kiril Kandilarov from Kandilarov laboratories, Lyubov Kostova, Kalin Mutafchiev from the Ministry of Education and Science, a film crew consisting of Yuliana Chalakova, Feimi Daut, Wolfgang Knopfler, and Danail Vuchkov, Elena Georgieva, journalist Zhivko Konstantinov, and representatives of the Natural History Museum in Plovdiv - Kristiyan Vladov and Stefan Kyurkchiev. In South America, they will be joined by Prof. Boyan Mednikarov from the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy and Alexander Nedyalkov.

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) has a National Press Club on board RSV 421 and, for the third consecutive year, is sending a correspondent to Antarctica. Reports from BTA's Milena Ostrovska are freely accessible in the special thematic section, available in both Bulgarian and English.
