An outbreak of Influenza A has been detected in a poultry farm in Asenovgrad, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency said on its official website on Wednesday. A 3-kilometer protection zone has been defined around the affected farm, where 80,000 laying hens are kept. The perimeter includes the territories of Asenovgrad and the villages of Boyantsi and Mominsko. A 10-kilometer surveillance zone has also been introduced.

In order to contain the disease, actions will be taken to humanely euthanise the sick and contact birds at the site. A study will also be carried out to track the movements of domestic and other birds, products and animal by-products obtained from them, bird feed, as well as the means of transport related to the technological process at the site.
