Dimitar Rashkov will present an exhibition, titled “The Zodiac” at the Gallery Bulgary. The exhibition, curated by Aksinia Dzhurova, will open on February 11, according to the hosts.
"I don't know to what extent we can look for a connection between a person and their zodiac sign without falling into speculative musings, but in the case of Dimitar Rashkov, who turned 70 in 2024 and is a Sagittarius, this comparison is indeed thought-provoking," says Dzhurova.
Aksinia Dzhurova recalls that in ancient mythology, the symbol of the Sagittarius zodiac is associated with the centaur aiming his bow towards the heights, as well as with the goat—both of which are favorite motifs in Rashkov's sculptures. "The centaur, as we know, is the philosopher of the zodiac, whose highest manifestation is enlightened consciousness. He is renowned not only for his physical strength and fiery temper, dancing in joy and intoxication, but also for his relentless determination in pursuing his goals," Dzurova adds.
Dimitar Rashkov was born in the town of Karlovo in 1954. He graduated with a degree in sculpture from the National Academy of Arts in 1981. From 1986 to 1992, Rashkov served as the chief artist for the municipality of Karlovo and curator of the city's art gallery. In 2000, he won a competition organized by the Union of Bulgarian Artists for a creative residency at the Cite des Arts cultural center in Paris.
Rashkov has held numerous solo exhibitions and has participated in many national and international group art shows.
