The International Folklore Festival Plovdiv 2024 opened on Monday at the Ancient Theatre, as ensembles from Bulgaria, Latvia, Moldova, Hungary and Serbia captivated the audience with their national folk dances, music and songs.

Deputy Mayor Plamen Panov said it is one of the most vibrant events in the city that showcases the International Intangible Cultural Heritage. During the festival, Plovdiv residents and guests can enjoy the Folk Dance Ensemble Mangilik from Kazakhstan, the Dzirnas dance school from Riga in Latvia, the Hora Mare folk group from Moldova, the Dimitrije Koturovic Cultural and Artistic Society from Belgrade in Serbia, the Balaton Dance Ensemble from Hungary and the State Song and Dance Ensemble Mkhedruli from Georgia. The Bulgarian hosts are the Trakia Ensemble from Plovdiv.

Admission to all concerts is free, with the exception of the concert by Georgia's Mkhedruli Ensemble on August 1, which is ticketed. The concert will mark the beginning of the ensemble's Bulgarian tour, which will continue in Stara Zagora, Pazardzhik, Gabrovo and Ruse.

The International Folklore Festival Plovdiv 2024 is organized by Plovdiv Municipiality.
