Wherever Bulgarians are in the world, they are connected by the very strong thread of identity and language, said Bulgarian Vice President Iliana Iotova. She joined the online opening of the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media, which takes place in Ukraine. The theme of this year's edition, organized by Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), is "Media and Community". The forum will be held until June 21, on-site and via online video link. The electricity power was cut several times during the meeting and a generator had to be switched on.
The Vice President said that the participants in the 19th Meeting will not only visit Odesa, but also Braila, Bolhrad, Izmail. On Tuesday, the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media delegation laid a wreath at the monument of the first Bulgarian settlers in the village of Kamchik (Zoria). Air alert sirens sounded in the village during the event.
“Together we have the responsibility to preserve and spread the Bulgarian language and cultural heritage. At the focus of the World Media Meeting, I also draw attention to another very big and important forum for us, the International Cyrillic Forum, which will be held on June 27 and 28”, Iotova said.
“I congratulate the organizers and personally BTA's Director General Kiril Valchev for the bold idea to gather Bulgarian journalists from all over the world for another World Meeting in the epicenter of the ugly, brutal and unacceptable war”, the Vice President said. In her words, the day was chosen for a reason, on June 19 the Bulgarian Orthodox Church celebrates the memory of St. Paisii Hilendarski. "Today we are all with the blessing of Paisii Hilendarski", Iotova added.
The Vice President noted that the BTA National Press Club in Odesa is an example of professionalism and of inspiring courage among our compatriots. Iotova specially greeted BTA correspondent in Odesa Svetlana Dragneva.
BTA is organizing the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media in Odesa, Bolhrad, and Izmail, Ukraine, from June 18 to June 21, 2024. The event is taking place with the support of Aurubis Bulgaria, A1, Glavbolgarstroy Holding AD, Euroins Insurance Group, Postbank, SOF Connect, and the 13 Centuries of Bulgaria National Endowment Fund.
