The deputy chair of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Rossitsa Mateva, said Friday that the results from the June 9 elections for national and European Parliament will be ready on time. In the morning programme of the Bulgarian National Television, she was asked to comment remarks by caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev on Thursday that the two-in-one elections might take longer to process due to the unusual volume of work.
Mateva said, “We have always announced the results on time, as the Election Code says. This time will be no different”.
She urged against stirring tensions over the election process and especially over the announcing of results, and said that CEC is the only body in Bulgaria that can speak on the matter. “It is our task to ensure an organization that would make sure the deadline for announcing the results are met. The Council of Ministers has no responsibilities relating to the announcing of the results,” she added.
