site.btaSofia Exhibition of Posters Seeks to Mobilize Voters in Upcoming European Elections

An international exhibition of posters, Get Out & Vote, will be arranged in Sofia with the goal of encouraging people to vote in the upcoming European elections, said the EP Bureau on Tuesday. Opening on May 2 in the park space outside Sofia's NDK convention centre, the exhibition is organized by the global creative studio for social impact Fine Acts with support from the EP Bureau in Sofia.

On the eve of the upcoming EP elections and on the backdrop of threats to democracy in Europe, Fine Acts collaborated with 27 outstanding artists from EU Member States, who created posters on the theme of mobilizing voters in the upcoming European elections on 9 June.

Not so long in the past, millions of Europeans experienced times when they could not vote or even speak freely, when their lives could be threatened simply because they were different, because they had different beliefs or because they wanted a different life, said Teodor Stoychev, Head of the EP Bureau in Bulgaria. Europeans aspired to democracy and fought for it. Now it is up to EU citizens to preserve it and make it stronger by voting, Stoychev added.

Fine Acts has created a broad campaign in support of European unity and citizenship, which will be rolled out in various cities across Europe in the coming weeks.

The initiative is an exercise in how European nations and ethnicities can step back from their differences and try to work together for global causes, said Teo Georgiev, illustrator and Bulgaria's representative in the campaign. Every voice is a power that can influence the direction the EU is moving in, Georgiev added.

The exhibition will be on until May 16, in the Kino & Bar Cabana summer stage in the NDK park.

All works are published under a specific open license so that social activists and non-governmental organizations can use them non-commercially to encourage voting in their communities. 

The initiative of Fine Acts is in partnership with the European Cultural Foundation, as in Sofia the exhibition is supported by the EP Office in Bulgaria and Sofia Municipality.
