PM Borissov, British Counterpart Cameron Discuss Refugees Topic

London, May 12 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and his British counterpart David Cameron had a one-on-one meeting here on Wednesday and discussed the topic of refugees, Cabinet's press service reported.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov is in London to  attend the global Anti-Corruption Summit there. He is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev and Justice Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva.

"We talked about the ongoing processes between the European Commission, the European Parliament and Turkey, about the condition of our border," said Borissov after his meeting with Cameron. Commenting Belgian media publications about a terrorist who was stopped at the Bulgarian border, Borissov said that both countries' services are working exceptionally well, while this country relies on support from Britain and other countries, especially equipment.

Borissov added that the Government and the State have concentrated on fighting smuggling in the past 18 months and the financial results are proving it. He said there is more to be done, noting that Bulgaria partners appreciate the Government's will to bring to accomplish this.

Energy diversification in Europe was another topic discussed during the meeting. The Bulgarian Prime Minister noted the Government's active work to gather support for the Balkan gas hub and the efforts made so that this country can become a gas distributor. "Prime Minister Cameron is helping us attract big companies," he added.

Commenting ABV's recent decision to withdraw from the Government, Borissov said ABV has not supported them in anything of importance. ABV was always competing with the Bulgarian Socialist Party for who will be seen as being more Left-wing. "The problem is that we found out about their decision from the media and the news conference, and I believe that they had made this decision a long time ago because the presidential elections are important to them," Borissov said.

Regarding the subsequent resignation of ABV's deputy prime minister and minister of labour and social policy Ivaylo Kalfin, Borissov described him as a professional and a good person. Kalfin was supported by everyone for the pension reform and over 220 million leva were provided for the Bulgarian pensioners outside the budget.

Borissov said that he values the support of the Patriotic Front (PF) and the Reformist Bloc (RB), as well, and everyone else who believes that new elections would benefit smugglers, corruption and all of the oligarchic circles.

"We are ready for elections anytime, but it would not be fair to the people. We depend on our partners as well," he said, adding that early elections largely depend on the stability of the PF and the RB.
