site.btaEU Cohesion Policy Has Invested Over EUR 125 Million in Gabrovo Region, Says Head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria
The European cohesion policy has invested over EUR 55 million in Gabrovo, while investments in the entire Gabrovo Region are over EUR 125 million, said Yordanka Chobanova, Head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, at the local conference in Gabrovo on Wednesday. The event was part of BTA's "Europe on the Balkans: Cohesion Skills" project.
"In Gabrovo, we see how the people of Gabrovo not only dream, but also succeed," she commented, adding that the town is proof of what happens when the municipality, the regional administration, the university, the schools, the Information Center and Europe work together and have a vision, are proud of their traditions and at the same time make their dreams come true.
"If we look back and go back to the early 1990s, we see how much progress has been made (since then). Then the transport was slow, most of the parks were deserted, the buildings sunk into oblivion," Chobanova stressed, noting that today Gabrovo is a modern and proud place. "The common thing between the Gabrovo and the European projects is that in both cases we are talking about miracles achieved with limited resources," she said.
"Europe can learn a lot from you, because you are proof that when dreams meet skillful planning and efforts, then the results are impressive," Chobanova emphasized, adding that Gabrovo's successes are Europe's successes. She also congratulated Gabrovo Mayor Tania Hristova and her team for their efforts, as well as the Regional Administration and the Regional Information Centre.
Through this initiative, BTA aims to raise public awareness and foster open dialogue about cohesion policy, local achievements, and the implementation of the EU's policy priorities. Between November 2024 and September 2025, BTA will host discussions at its press clubs in the following cities: Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Vratsa, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Kazanlak, Kardzhali, Kyustendil, Lovech, Montana, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Pleven, Razgrad, Ruse, Samokov, Svishtov, Sliven, Smolyan, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Troyan, Targovishte, Haskovo, Shumen, and Yambol. Cross-border conferences will be held in Belgrade, Bosilegrad, Bucharest, Edirne, Skopje, and Thessaloniki. The project builds on the Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future and Europe in Bulgaria: A Common Future projects, implemented by BTA in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
