BSP for Bulgaria
Demands Parliament Chair Glavchev's
Resignation

Sofia, May 31 (BTA) - The BSP for Bulgaria parliamentary group is demanding Parliament Chair Dimiter Glavchev's resignation for "alleged systematic abuse of power and failing in his duties", said here on Wednesday Socialist leader Kornelia Ninova at a news conference in Parliament, attended by her whole Parliamentary Group.

Ninova accused Glavchev of blatantly violating the National Assembly's rules, failing in his duties and becoming a medium of hate speech, the division and scandals, which she said GERB are imposing on the public.

She noted that Parliament has not been working for six weeks now and there are sessions that are 23 minutes long. Ninova attributed this to the incumbents' lack of a governance programme. "Meanwhile, the bills we submit are not reviewed by committees, nor in Parliament," she said.

The BSP leader also said that Glavchev fails to act when MPs from his party, GERB, are being hostile, use insulting words, gestures and threats.

Glavchev responded by saying that he is ready to take on this responsibility and step down, if he must be the guilty one needed, so that Parliament and the state institutions can work in peace. He recalled Ninova's refusal to become National Assembly Chair, which in his words, had she taken the post, it would have saved the Socialists all this trouble.

All bills submitted, including those of BSP, are distributed among the parliamentary commissions, so the Socialists can go check there why their bills are not being reviewed, Glavchev said. He admitted, however, that overall there are not enough bills in Parliament, which is concerning and something he has brought to the attention of parliamentary group chairs. LI/MY
