Parliament Approves
2016 Activity Report
by Energy, Water Regulator

Sofia, June 1 (BTA) - Parliament on Thursday adopted the 2016 activity report by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission.

For a second consecutive year the Commission had an important task to solve - the financial stability of the electricity sector.

The report takes note of the establishment of the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange which started operation on January 19, 2016 in its first stage. In mid-2016 the second segment was launched into operation for concluding contracts through the exchange platform. The third segment is expected to be launched into operation for day trading at the end of 2017 or in early 2018. In 2016 some 1,000 household and 85,369 industrial consumers went on the free market.

According to the report, two important ordinances are enforced in the water sector - on regulating the prices of drinking water and on the quality of drinking water. All water facilities in the country had to submit their business plans by June 30, 2016.
The report says that the Commission had put in a place a speedier procedure to consider complaints by citizens. LI/PP
