site.btaOver Lv 30 Mln Needed for 15% Wage Increase in Water Supply Sector

January 20 (BTA) - Confederation of Independent Trade
Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) President Plamen Dimitrov told
journalists here Monday that there is no alternative to the wage
 increase in the water and sewerage sector, because the whole
system is on the verge of its functional dependence on staff. 

Dimitrov took part in a national working meeting on the wages
and future of the water and sewerage sector in Bulgaria, hosted
by CITUB and attended by representatives of the trade unions and
 employers, Deputy Regional Development and Public Works
Minister Nikolay Nankov and experts from his Ministry.

The CITUB President said that the wages of the close to 16,000
people employed in the sector, 7,000 of whom are getting minimum
 wage, must be increased by 15 per cent, because their current
pay is lagging behind the country's average.

Deputy Minister Nankov listed regulatory changes for overcoming
overregulation and the establishment of a wholly state-owned
water utility company as possible sources of revenue in the
