Fingerprint Identifier Will Be Introduced Only in Hospitals and Chemist's Shops in 2016

Sofia, February 10 (BTA) - Health Minister Peter Moskov Wednesday said a fingerprint identifier will be introduced only in hospitals and chemist's shops in June or July. After legal analysis, it will be decided if the identifier should be included in the National Framework Agreement with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) or in another document. However, if the Bulgarian Medical Association does not sign a National Framework Agreement with the NHIF, the latter will draw up a contract which Moskov will endorse.

At present patients are required to present an ID when being admitted to hospital. This system does not ensure reliable control, however, because copies of IDs are also accepted, Moskov argued when he proposed the new system in 2015.
