EC President Rules Out Any Delay in EU  Migration Control Aid

Sofia, October 4 (BTA) - The grant agreements for the 108 million euro in EU urgent border management and migration control aid to Bulgaria are expected to be signed this week, the press office of the Bulgarian Government quoted European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker as saying in a letter to Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.

The letter provides an update on the activities undertaken by the Commission with regards to the aid agreed at a European Council meeting in Bratislava on September 16.

As a result of intensive joint work, the payments will be provided without any delay, including with regards to the delivery of transport equipment, Juncker is quoted as saying.

The assessment committee is currently also reviewing the additional 52 million euro in EU aid. The idea is to make sure that the effect from the assistance is felt as quick as possible. "I rely fully on the cooperation of the Bulgarian side to ensure successful implementation," Juncker is quoted as saying.

European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos will pay a visit to Bulgaria to take part alongside Borissov in the launch of the European Border and Coast Guard on October 6, the letter also said.

The establishment of a European Border and Coast Guard is a key measure under the European Agenda on Migration to reinforce the management and security of the EU's external borders.
