Bulgarian Student Team Places First in 34th Balkan Mathematcs Olympiad
Sofia, May 9 (BTA) - Bulgarian school students won four gold and two silver medals at the 34th Balkan Mathematical Olympiad held in Ohrid, Macedonia, from May 2 to 7. The team came first with 226 points out of the 240 possible, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) said.
The gold went to Violeta Naidenova and Kiril Bangachev of the Sofia School of Mathematics, as well as to Konstantin Gargov and Atanas Dineov of the Science and Mathematics High School in Bourgas (on the Black Sea). The silver went to Ivan Ganev of the American College in Sofia and to Borislav Antov of the Sofia School of Mathematics.
The team was headed by Assistant Prof. Dragomir Dragnev, Assoc. Prof. Ivailo Kortezov and Oleg Moushkarov, all from the BAS Institute of Mathematics and Informatics.
The teams of Serbia and Romania ranked second and third.
Twenty teams from 19 countries took part in the event.
