Sofia Library will celebrate 146 years since Sofia was declared the capital of Bulgaria with a photo exhibition entitled The Triumphant City, the organizers reported on Wednesday. The event will tell about the cultural, historical and architectural development of Sofia and can be attended from Thursday.

Posters will present the formation of Sofia's Greater Municipality after in 1938 it merged with villages close to the capital: Boyana, Knyazhevo, Gorna Banya, Nadezhda, Slatina, Dragalevtsi, and Darvenitsa.

A highlight of the exhibition is the journals of the Constituent National Assembly in Tarnovo from 1879. The copy obtained from Konstantin Stoilov's personal library contains details of the session when Sofia was selected to be the capital of Bulgaria.

Also on display will be publications that present the architectural and urban development of Sofia since its proclamation as the capital with the publication of the city's first zoning plan in 1879. The exhibition will present rare books by Bogdan Filov dedicated to the city's Christian symbols - the Saint Sophia Church and the Church of Saint George.
