The 2024 Olympic, world and European weightlifting champion Karlos Nassar received on Thursday the Sports Icarus Award for his achievements in 2024. He won every major competition he competed in, and set world records in most of them.

The award of the Bulgarian Sports Foundation was presented to Nasar by Sports Minister Georgi Glushkov during a ceremony at the Sofia Grand Hotel. The award has been conferred for 32 years to athletes with the most significant achievements in the respective year.

"To say the least, I am pleased. I really managed to achieve every one of my goals and crushed the competition everywhere. All the hard work I put in was worth it, I enjoyed the process, the people supported me and it was a huge reward for me," said Nasar after the awards ceremony.

He added that he is keen to participate in the next possibly two Olympics and is ready for more medals.

"I never stop dreaming. My dreams are enough for the next Olympics, God forbid another one after that, but I have to watch the steps ahead of me. This time I have to go through it again but with new categories and new records to improve so that I am ready for another medal," said Nasar, who has a serious shoulder problem and his main aim is to make a full recovery.
