Radostin Vasilev, the leader of the Morality, Unity, and Honor (MECh) party, will waive his immunity as early as Friday, he told journalists in the National Assembly on Thursday.
Vasilev also expressed support for the actions of acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov, who requested the removal of immunity for six members of parliament.
A request has been made regarding Vasilev in relation to the continuation of criminal proceedings at the Sofia City Court related to a 2023 coercion case.
"I learned today there was a request to strip my immunity, which I welcome, as my case has concluded at the first instance, and I hope the objective truth has already been clarified. I will waive my immunity tomorrow [Friday]," Vasilev said. "MPs should not think they are different from ordinary people," he added. He advised Sarafov to ask for the immunity of Boyko Borissov.
"I have no concerns about a fabricated recording, but I believe there are other MPs who have reasons to worry—some related to document crimes, others to financial misconduct, but I am not troubled in any way," he added.
Earlier today, the prosecution service said acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov has asked Parliament to strip of immunity six MPs. The request to strip them of immunity came from the Sofia City Prosecution Office and the Sofia Regional Prosecution Office.
A check in the list of MPs shows that the six are Radostin Vasilev of MECh, Veselin Veshev of Vazrazhdane, Angel Georgiev of Vazrazhdane, Lena Borislavova of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria, Gyunai Daloolu of Movement for Rights and Freedoms-New Beginning, and Mario Rangelov of Democracy, Rights and Freedoms.
