Experts from the Risk Analysis and Operational Control Directorate of the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) are carrying out an inspection of the implementation of construction works and blasting activities during the modernization of the route of the I-1 Mezdra - Lyutidol road, in the area of Reberkovo, northwestern Bulgaria, RIA said on Thursday. The inspection is in compliance with an order of RIA Management Board chairman Eng. Yassen Yordanov after damage caused to houses and cars in the village after blasting works on November 13.

RIA specified that since the beginning of 2023, in accordance with an approved procedure and in cooperation with the Control of General Dangerous Means Service to the Interior Ministry, controlled blasting has been carried out on 19 days in order to remove a large amount of earth and rock mass that was impossible to clear with existing construction equipment.

Following the blasting activities in the area of Reberkovo village on November 13, a commission was formed by representatives of the site developer and the mayor of Reberkovo on the following day, which in the presence of affected citizens carried out an inspection of the properties near the site of the blasting and measures were taken to remove all the damage caused at the expense of the builder, RIA further reported.

The mayor of the village, Petar Petkov, told BTA that the signed damage protocol with the contractor included a clause according to which the company is obliged to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the population.

The section Mezdra - Lyutidol is part of the road Mezdra - Botevgrad, which according to preliminary information is expected to be open in December.
