Chinese folk music from Guizhou Province was presented for the first time in Bulgaria on Saturday at the Regional History Museum in Plovdiv.
During the performance, dancers from the Guizhou Lantern Theatre showcased the rich cultural heritage of the province and surprised the audience with the artistic charm of Guizhou's ethnic minorities. The performance included traditional ethnic folk dances, songs and musical pieces representing the character of the Chinese countryside.
The performance was organized by the Chinese Cultural Centre in Sofia ahead of the Chinese New Year. Dozens of Plovdiv residents and lovers of Chinese culture attended the performance, which was free entrance.
Chinese Cultural Centre Director Hong Hai welcomed the spectators, wishing them good luck in the new year, which will be the year of the snake according to the Chinese calendar. He pointed out that in Chinese culture, the snake is a symbol of wisdom, transformation and vitality, bringing new hope and the expectation for a bright future.
"The past year 2024 marked the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Bulgaria. The Chinese Cultural Centre in Sofia organized over 140 cultural events designed to promote and spread Chinese culture in Bulgaria," Hai noted, adding that the cultural centre will continue to fulfill its role as a cultural bridge, presenting Chinese history and promoting cultural exchange.
Located in the interior of Southwest China, Guizhou is one of the provinces with the largest number of ethnic minorities in China. Guizhou has a rich ethno-cultural tradition and diverse local characteristics, and the locals have produced a wealth of literary and artistic works.
