The construction of a photovoltaic system on the roof of the Municipal Enterprise for Waste Treatment (MEWT) in Sofia has been completed, said the press centre of Sofia Municipality on Sunday. The system is made up of 3,356 photovoltaic modules with a capacity of 1862 kWp/hour, which is expected to reduce MEWT's electricity costs by nearly 1.8 million per year.

The energy produced will be used entirely for the needs of the enterprise and will contribute to achieving a zero carbon footprint, which is part of the Municipality's efforts to reduce greenhouse gases by 30% by 2030.

Sofia Deputy Mayor for Ecology Nadezhda Bobcheva noted that the installation of the system began in November 2024 and pointed out that the Municipality reduced the costs of construction by nearly BGN 500,000 after renegotiating the terms of the contract with the contractor.
