Students in Belgrade and Nis took to the streets on Sunday in the latest of a series of demonstrations against the Serbian government and President Aleksandar Vucic, which started in late November.
The protest in the capital began with 15 minutes of silence for the 15 people killed in the Novi Sad railway station canopy collapse on November 1.
Many students gathered in front of the Constitutional Court in Belgrade under the slogan "You should care!", holding their mobile phones up with the flashlight on. The protesters claim that the Serbian Constitution is violated, although it ought to guarantee the fundamental rights of the citizens.
Students blocking universities in Serbia over the last month and a half to press their demand for justice came up with a declaration which says: "We have witnessed violations of the Constitution in recent weeks, and therefore we decided to hold a symbolic gathering in front of the Constitutional Court building to voice our discontent."
Most of the protesting students were reluctant to talk to the media. They obviously preferred to express their opinion with placards, one of which read: "My mother has taught me not to remain silent!"
In Nis, students and members of the general public blocked two intersections and marched through the town centre, blowing whistles and vuvuzela horns.
