site.btaUPDATED Bulgarian Consulate General in LA Warns of Water Contamination in Fire-affected Areas
The Consulate General of Bulgaria in Los Angeles warned on its Facebook page that the fires in the metropolis have caused water contamination in some areas and urged Bulgarian citizens living in the affected areas to carefully monitor the information of local authorities about the state of drinking water.
Warnings have been issued in the following areas: Pacific Palisades ZIP code 90272, Malibu, Pasadena, Altadena.
The Consulate General advised Bulgarian citizens to monitor the latest information on the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power website.
The consulate also issued another warning, regarding reports of looting of homes in areas affected by the fires in Los Angeles County, and recommend increased caution and monitoring of property.
The two huge wildfires that threaten Los Angeles from the east and west are still active, but the subsidence of the winds that spread the flames for two consecutive days has eased the work of firefighters, Reuters added.
The Palisades Fire, raging between Santa Monica and Malibu on the city's west side, and the Eaton Fire, raging to the east near Pasadena, are already among the most destructive fires in Los Angeles history and have so far burned about 48 square miles (125 square kilometres) and reduced entire neighborhoods to ashes.
At least five people have died, thousands of homes and businesses have been destroyed. About 180,000 people have been ordered to evacuate and 200,000 have been told to prepare for evacuation.
Another post on the page of the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Los Angeles informs Bulgarians in the city about the outbreak of a new fire, called the Kenneth Fire, in West Hills. The fire has currently covered an area of 50 acres.
The Consulate General of Bulgaria in Los Angeles said on its Facebook page that it continues to operate normally and receive citizens. Consul of Bulgaria in Los Angeles Boyko Hristov said that him and his team are on standby 24/7 to provide assistance to Bulgarians affected by the natural disaster.
