Grigor Dimitrov was eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open after withdrawing due to injury.
The No. 10 seed Bulgarian was eliminated by Francesco Passaro, the "lucky loser" of qualifying, after deciding to retire from the match at 5-7, 1-2 due to a physical problem.
Dimitrov lost the first set after a single break in the 11th game, and then requested a medical timeout and the physiotherapist took him to the locker room for intervention. He returned to the court and took his serve, but was clearly in discomfort. He conceded a break for 1:2 and decided to retire.
