Kremena Georgieva is working on a project to promote the work of women researchers in Antarctica. The idea is to provide a new perspective on Bulgaria's scientific mission by emphasizing the contributions of women.

Georgieva, who holds a PhD in rhetoric and communications, is the corporate communications and social responsibility manager at Kaufland Bulgaria. For three years, she has been involved in the missions of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute, including the naval research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) and the work of the scientists. The company is a strategic partner of these expeditions.

Her project on women in Antarctica has received support, as the topic of women and their achievements is an important part of the company’s policy. "This is a cause we strongly believe in. So far, around 50 Bulgarian women scientists have participated in Antarctic expeditions, and sharing their stories can inspire more young women to bravely head south," says Kremena Georgieva.

For the third consecutive year, Kaufland Bulgaria has donated food and non-food supplies necessary for the scientists' stay in Antarctica and the voyage of RSV 421 from Varna to Livingston Island and back. Over this period, more than 70 tons of supplies have been provided - marking the largest donation of its kind, Georgieva notes.

She traveled to Antarctica as part of the Bulgarian expedition with several important tasks. For her, it is crucial to have firsthand knowledge of the subject she is presenting. Over three years, she has familiarized herself with the people and projects, but she realizes that being on-site completely changes her perception. Her presence there allows her to see firsthand what the expedition needs and how she can further contribute to making the partnership even more effective in the future.

Her primary task is to explore how Kaufland can expand its support. Over the past year, the partnership has also developed in terms of communication, with the company increasing the visibility of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute. Various events dedicated to the expedition and individual scientists have been organized, including exhibitions and public gatherings. According to Georgieva, the partnership is expected to expand in the future.

Beyond her communication role, during her stay on the Ice Continent, Georgieva - who is also a speleologist in her free time - took on an additional challenge. She provided logistical support to ensure safety during research near glaciers and ice crevasses. She also assisted those filming videos and documentaries on the expedition.

The project on women in Antarctica, led by Kremena Georgieva, will be presented in a dedicated publication, contributing to the promotion of Bulgarian women scientists' research activities. The idea has been discussed with Prof. Christo Pimpirev, the head of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute, and is expected to become a reality in the near future.
