Newly appointed Culture Minister Marian Bachev took over office from his predecessor Nayden Todorov on Thursday. The two met at the Ministry of Culture building, along with a large part of the department's team.

Outgoing careataker Minister Todorov said that this is the most difficult ministry. On his part, Bachev noted that he has always been a team player, which is why he has never done a solo show. He also stated that his door will always be open to those who want to talk to him.

Todorov reported on the goals achieved at the Ministry of Culture in the period between April 9, 2024 and January 16, 2025), the press centre of the Ministry said on Thursday.

Among the main highlights of the report is the fact that, at the proposal of Minister Nayden Todorov, Bulgaria was selected to host the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in 2025.

The proposal was voted on July 31, 2024, within the framework of the 46th session of UNESCO in Delhi, India. The Bulgarian side put forward its candidacy for chairmanship and host after Todorov held a series of meetings with delegates from different countries to establish support for Bulgaria. The Bulgaria's hosting of the event is associated with increasing the country's chances of receiving financial and technical assistance from UNESCO for the preservation and development of Bulgarian World Heritage sites.

Bulgaria hosting the 2025 UNESCO World Heritage Committee also aims to promote education and awareness among people about the importance of cultural and natural heritage. Thus, the Ministry of Culture will attract more investments in cultural and natural sites, which will support the development of local infrastructure and economy, and this is expected to increase Bulgaria's international prestige.
