Veliko Tarnovo University will award Vice President Iliana Iotova with an Honorary Doctorate for her contribution to the development of Bulgarian studies and the spread of Bulgarian culture and spirituality, the university’s press centre said on Tuesday. The degree will be presented to Iotova at a solemn ceremony in the University Hall on May 12.

The University noted that as Vice President, Iotova is one of the most authoritative advocates for the promotion and development of Bulgarian education and culture around the world, with a significant personal contribution to the recognition of Bulgarian schools and Bulgarian studies abroad and their transformation into spiritual centres uniting the Bulgarian community beyond the borders of the country.

The proposal was submitted by an Initiative Committee chaired by Prof Nikolay Doynov, with Veliko Tarnovo University Rector Dimitar Dimitrov submitting the proposal at a meeting of the Academic Council.
