Dozens of residents of Blagoevgrad Region donated blood at Blagoevgrad Hospital for the injured people in the tragic incident in Kocani in the Republic of North Macedonia, Valentin Kormev from the team of the hospital's Transfusion Hematology Department told BTA on Tuesday.

"It's challenging for us because we have a limited capacity, and we are currently operating at full speed. It's been this way since morning, and today we'll likely have around 60-70 donors. We are committed to performing our duties to the best of our abilities, which will ultimately benefit those admitted in emergency situations," he pointed out.

Kormev added that the blood donation centre will work on the following weekdays in the morning from 7:30 am to 2 pm and will be open to all people who wish to help. Donors must be healthy and between the ages of 18 and 65.

"I donate with a clear conscience. I don't have any relatives [among the injured], but I believe we are all one people, and when something like this happens, we need to support each other," Spas Todorov, one of the donors, told BTA.

The fire that erupted early Sunday during a concert at a nightclub in Kocani resulted in 59 fatalities and injured more than 150 people. Some of the victims have been taken to Bulgaria, Greece, Turkiye, and Serbia for treatment. Fourteen of the injured are currently receiving medical care in Bulgaria.
