The legitimate chairperson of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Sofia City Council is Diana Tonova, the legitimate city council is the one elected at the Sofia City Party Conference held on April 21, 2024, the legitimate chairpersons of the 24 district councils of the Bulgarian Socialist Party are the ones elected on the basis of the early full cycle reports and elections. This is stated in a position of the Executive Bureau of the BSP-Sofia, distributed by the press centre of the organization, following a decision of the BSP National Council from Saturday.
By a decision of the BSP National Council on June 29, Ivan Takov was reinstated as chairperson of the BSP Sofia chapter. This is based on the fact that the early launch of the BSP-Sofia election season was illegitimate because it was approved in the absence of quorum at the National Council. The whole City Council of BSP Sofia and the leaders of the 24 borough chapters in the capital remain the same as before the illegitimate decision that the National Council made about BSP Sofia on February 25, the control committee said.
In its position statement, BSP-Sofia disapproves of the decisions taken by the National Council on June 29.
"We call on all legitimately elected and serving municipal, city and district presidents in the BSP to express positions on the National Council's decisions in order to preserve our human and party dignity and oppose attempts to fundamentally destroy the party structure of the BSP," the position paper said.
