site.btaSofia Regional Prosecution Office Head Sees No Legal Grounds to Resign

Sofia Regional Prosecution Office head Nevena Zartova told BTA she isn't aware of the legal grounds for her resignation. She added that she hadn't spoken with Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov so far but if there were disciplinary or legal infraction, she would resign.

Earlier on Sunday, Sarafov called for Zartova's resignation due to major shortcomings in the organization of work, which led to heavy consequences.

Zartova said that neither the Judicial System Act, nor any other law give her the right to instruct a prosecutor what to do on a case. She said that if this was the case, she could be accused of exerting influence.
