Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov ordered a full check of the work of Sofia Regional Prosecution Office Head Nevena Zartova from the beginning of 2022 until July 31, 2023, the state prosecution said on Monday. The inspection is in line with the main purpose of the Prosecution Office to ensure accurate and equal application of the law.
The inspection will cover a wide range of Zartova’s activities, including those connected to the organization, management, and control of the operations of the Sofia Regional Prosecution Office, as well as the implementation of control over compliance with the deadlines for the conduct of investigations and in the exercise of powers related to the implementation of disciplinary responsibility of prosecutors on complaints and signals received.
Zartova’s work in her capacity of supervising prosecutor in cases and pre-trial proceedings will also be inspected.
Sarafov also ordered an inspection of Radoslava Kanazireva's work, who was the supervising prosecutor in a pre-trial proceeding for causing death by negligence, during which Sofia Regional Court released on own recognizance the indicted Chavdar Boyadzhiev in April 2022.
The inspection was assigned to a team of five prosecutors from the Supreme Cassation Prosecution Office, the Sofia Appellate Prosecution Office and the Sofia City Prosecution Office. The deadline for submitting the report of the inspection is September 11.
