site.btaVice President Expects Serious Measures to Counter Drug Use among Adolescents

"I expect very serious analyses to be presented and measures to be outlined," Vice President Iliana Iotova told journalists here Monday in connection with the upcoming Consultative Council for National Security (CCNS), convened on the topic of the risks and threats to national security from the spread of and abuse of drugs and illicit substances among adolescents. The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, 18 December.

Iotova described the CCNS' convocation as very timely. She said it was important because it could not be the effort of just one Ministry, institution or organisation. According to her, there is a need for a large-scale campaign involving the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Education and Science and NGOs. Responding to a question, Iotova said that the problem has been underestimated not only by the Interior Ministry, but all the institutions.

"I hope this time there will be legislative changes, but also concrete measures on the ground. The main task lies with the schools and the Ministry of Education, while the role of parents should not be forgotten," the Vice President also said.
