Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov met with Italy's Ambassador to Bulgaria Giuseppina Zarra, the press office of the Ministry reported on Friday.
The two discussed deepening cooperation between the two countries in areas of mutual interest, including nuclear energy, hydroelectric power, the green transformation of the sector, the development of electricity and gas interconnections, energy efficiency, and other fields.
"In the transformation of the energy sector, it is crucial to maintain the competitiveness of businesses. When implementing European decarbonization goals, we must first consider the specific characteristics of each individual country," said Stankov.
He presented to his guest the development of the strategic project for the Vertical Gas Corridor and underlined the Government's efforts to increase natural gas transmission capacity at the Bulgarian-Greek and Bulgarian-Romanian borders.
Stankov said that construction permit is expected soon for the section Kulata-Kresna, and a few weeks later - for the section Rupcha-Vetrino. Both he and Ambassador Zarra agreed that Bulgaria plays a key role in the natural gas supply for the region, and the project for Vertical Gas Corridor consolidates this role and builds on it.
