The number of loans to households, financial and non-financial corporations, and non-profit institutions serving households grew by 2.8% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2024, with their total value increasing by 14.6%, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said on Monday.
Loans to non-financial corporations reached 150,000 by the end of 2024’s last quarter, showing a slight decline compared to the previous year. The total value of these loans rose to BGN 49.105 billion, up 9.9% year-on-year. Compared to the end of the previous quarter, the number of loans increased by 2%, and their total value grew by 3.7%.
Loans to financial corporations stood at 1,106 at the end of the fourth quarter of 2024, reflecting a 9.2% increase year-on-year. Their total value reached BGN 8.466 billion, marking an 11.8% annual increase. Compared to the previous quarter, the number of these loans grew by 5.6%, and their total value rose by 2.4%. By the end of December 2024, loans exceeding BGN 1 million accounted for the largest share, representing 99.1% of total financial corporation loans.
As of December 2024, loans to households and non-profit institutions serving households grew by 3% year-on-year, reaching 2.9 million. Their total value increased by 20.8% annually to BGN 46.374 billion. Compared to the end of the third quarter of 2024, the number of these loans rose by 1.1%, while their total value grew by 4.5%. Loans ranging from BGN 100,000 to BGN 250,000 held the largest share, making up 27.8% of the total loan amount.
The number of deposits held by households, financial and non-financial corporations, and non-profit institutions serving households increased by 1.2% year-on-year by the end of the last quarter of 2024, with their total value rising by 10.1%.
Deposits of households and non-profit institutions serving households reached 9.009 million, reflecting a 1% annual increase. Their total value rose by 11.8% year-on-year to BGN 89.403 billion. Compared to the previous quarter, the number of these deposits grew by 0.8%, while their total value increased by 5%. At the end of December 2024, deposits ranging from BGN 50,000 to BGN 100,000 held the largest share, representing 19% of the total amount.
