In January 2025, Sofia Airport used 11,369.62 tonnes of Jet A1 aviation fuel blended with 2% Sustainable Aviation Fuel to refuel 1,894 aircraft or about 75% of all aircraft that took off from the airport, the concessionaire of Sofia Airport, SOF Connect, reported on Monday. The airport described this fact as yet another step taken towards sustainable aviation, as it helps to diminish the released carbon emissions by hundreds of tonnes.

Jesus Caballero, CEO of SOF Connect, the concessionaire of Sofia Airport, said: "Sofia Airport is establishing itself as a leader in the use of sustainable fuel in Europe."

At the end of last year, the certification audit of Sofia Airport's tanks for storage of sustainable aviation fuel was successfully completed.
