site.btaUPDATED Delyan Peevski: "We Collect and Deliver to US Government Data on Sorosoid Grant Guzzlers in Bulgaria"
Delyan Peevski, Chairman of the the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) and Floor Leader of the MRF-New Beginning, was quoted by the party's press office on Monday as saying: "In light of recent events linked to revelations about the structure and financing of global-scale manipulations and propaganda, it is even more imperative for Bulgaria to respond adequately to the times and to put an end to attempts at entrenchment and mimicry by activists of the Sorosoid networks, their continued takeover and distortion of key issues in the country's socio-political life.
"Therefore, in addition to proposing the establishment of an anti-Soros ad hoc committee in the National Assembly, we at MRF-New Beginning have committed to collect, summarize and provide the US government with information on the actions in Bulgaria of organizations, media and individuals engaged in this manipulative propagandist activity. It has been funded with American taxpayers' money through the foundations of George Soros and Alexander Soros and their Bulgarian affiliate, the oligarch Ivo Prokopiev, leader of the notorious Capital circle," Peevski said.
"Millions of dollars have been allocated to finance propaganda and the generation of fake news through dependent media, journalists and dubious organizations aimed at manipulating public opinion and suppressing political pluralism and citizens' free will.
"I firmly believe that honourable Bulgarian leaders will support the revelations about the activities and harmful influence of grant-guzzling activists through the work of the parliamentary ad hoc committee.
"It should be clear to Bulgarian citizens that any MP who does not vote for the setting up of this committee becomes an accomplice in Bulgaria's ongoing destruction," Delyan Peevski said.
In 2021, Peevski was designated by the US under the Global Magnitsky Act as an oligarch who "has regularly engaged in corruption, using influence peddling and bribes to protect himself from public scrutiny and exert control over key institutions and sectors in Bulgarian society". Peevski is challenging the designation in a US court. His lawyers argue that there is no evidence of any wrongdoing by their client.
In 2023, the UK sanctioned Peevski for his involvement "in attempts to exert control over key institutions and sectors in Bulgarian society through bribery and use of his media empire".
