Bulgaria is one of 17 countries participating in the 19th Mountain Film Festival (MFF) in Slovenia, running February 17-22, said the Bulgarian Embassy in Ljubljana Friday. The Bulgarian representative is director Ruslan Vakrilov, whose short film Night Shift will be screened on February 17 at 18:00 local time in Ljubljana’s Cankarjev Dom.

The 15-minute black-and-white film delves into the psychedelic experience of night climbing, combining sound, image, and voice to immerse the viewer in the trance of bouldering at night. According to the festival catalog, “Night Shift” explores the journey of climbers solving a puzzle that can’t be solved during the day.

The script was written by Viktor Varoshkin, with music by Julian Stoichkov, and Konstantin Takvor – Kokera providing the voiceover. The film features Filip Donchev, Matey Dimitrov, Lachezar Rizov, and Dimitar Rusev.

Journalist Tanya Ivanova from Bulgarian National Radio, a climber herself who is known for covering extreme sports, will serve on the international jury, which will evaluate 32 films in four categories.

The five-day festival is organized by the Association for Mountaineering Culture with support from Slovenia's Ministry of Culture and the Mountaineering Union. It is a member of the International Alliance of Mountaineering Film Festivals (IAMF).
