site.btaBulgarian Foundation Buys Two-Thirds of Mid 20th Century Novelist Dimitar Talev's House in North Macedonia

A foundation called Manol Peikov and Friends, based in Bulgaria's second-largest city of Plovdiv, has bought two-thirds of the house in Prilep, North Macedonia, where Bulgarian novelist Dimitar Talev was born 126 years ago. The news was reported by publisher and politician Manol Peikov in a Facebook post on Saturday.

According to him, two-thirds of the house are now Bulgarian property thanks to 1,374 donors who embraced his cause and credited a total of BGN 215,797 (EUR 110,335) to his foundation's account over the past year.

The purchase, including tax and legal expenses, cost BGN 163,410 (EUR 83,550), which left a spare BGN 52,388 of the donated amount. The latter sum will be spent on repairs and possible acquisition of the remaining stakes in the property.

A few days ago, Bulgaria's caretaker government assigned Culture Minister Nayden Todorov to promptly explore the feasibility and start a procedure to buy the home of Dimitar Talev (1898-1966), one of the most important Bulgarian writers of his time, described by critics as the last voice of the National Revival.
