Sofia, September 5 (BTA) - The campaign for Bulgaria's October 5
early parliamentary elections started on Friday.

Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP)

The BSP - Left Bulgaria coalition opened its campaign in the
presence of its leadership, coalition partners, top-of-the-list
candidates, MEPs and regional governors.

The Left said it donated money to two schools in the town of
Mizia, which was badly hit by flooding in early August. BSP
leader Mihail Mikov said: "Poor Bulgaria needs social
sensitivity. That is why we opted for this modest campaign
launch and decided to pay for the winter heating of two schools
with about 350 children in Mizia." He called on all parties to
"donate something".

"We are in for a gruelling campaign in which the right wing will
mobilize financial, media and information resources to stop
what we started in terms of left-wing politics during our short
term in office," Mikov said. The Bulgarians want something
different, Left Bulgaria wants labour rights protection, both
for people working in the fields and in academia, it wants
fairer terms for small and medium-sized businesses, he said.
