site.btaGovernment Approves International Contract for Acquisition of Javelin Anti-Tank Guided Missiles

The Council of Ministers approved international contract (Letter of Offer and Acceptance -LOA) BU-B-UCQ "Acquisition of Javelin guided anti-tank missiles" under the US Foreign Military Sales Programme, the government press service said here Wednesday.

The decision proposes that the National Assembly, on the basis of the Constitution of Bulgaria, ratify this contract by law. 

The contract aims at the full implementation of the priority project of the Ministry of Defence for the acquisition of basic combat equipment for the construction of battalion combat groups of the mechanized brigade.

In another decision, the Government approved Memorandum of Understanding No V (MOU V) between the Ministry of Defence of Bulgaria, partner countries and the Department of Defense of the United States of America (USA) on the global positioning system "NAVSTAR" (Navigation Signal Timing and Ranging), subject to subsequent ratification. 

Bulgaria supports and directly participates in a number of NATO multinational initiatives in support of international peace and security. In this respect, the need to use high-technology developments for prevention will help to protect national forces as well as to realize national defence interests. 

The United States has developed the NAVSTAR Global Positioning System, which provides two levels of accuracy - Precise Positioning Service and Standard Positioning Service.

The MOU V continues the established good traditions of cooperation between the Republic of Bulgaria and the partner countries on the one hand and the USA on the other.
