Agriculture Minister Groudev: Commissioner Dacian Ciolos
Promised Full Cooperation for Fast Improvement
of Rural Development Programme 2014-2020

Brussels, September 5 (BTA) - Agriculture and Food Minister
Vassil Groudev met with EU Commissioner for Agriculture and
Rural Development Dacian Ciolos, GroudevТs ministry said Friday.

The sides have discussed the approval of the Bulgarian Rural
Development Programme 2014-2020, as well as the notifications on
the first pillar sent by Bulgaria. Commissioner Ciolos has
undertaken the commitment for full cooperation of the Commission
with the Agricultural Ministry team for prompt and expert
discussion of the programme. As of next week teams of the
Agriculture Ministry and DG Agriculture at the European
Commission will begin active dialogue to eradicate the comments
and notes on the Rural Development Programme with the aim to
receive its approval as soon as possible.

The European Commission will actively cooperate with Bulgaria in
respect to the notifications under pillar one sent by Bulgaria.
Next week a technical meeting will also discuss the details of
the small farmers support scheme.

Groudev is also scheduled to participate in the extraordinary
Agriculture and Fisheries Council on the potential impact of the
Russian import ban on certain EU agricultural products and on
the policy response.

The Bulgarian Agriculture Minister will defend the position
that, in addition to the compensation of direct damages
resulting from the ban on exports, a compensation of the
indirect damages sustained by farmers because of redirecting EU
produce towards Bulgaria is also necessary./SN/BR
